Florence Italy Virtual Tour in the historical center
Florence, artistic city for excellence, is the native land of illustrious personages like Dante, Machiavelli, Boccaccio and Galileo Galilei. Moreover it is rendered still more precious from the works of Michelangelo, Donatello, Brunelleschi, Botticelli, and Giotto. Anyone visits Florence never remain disappointed! This thanks to a cultural patrimony and artistic inheritance unique in Europe and in the world, that it has its origins in the Middle Ages and that catches its maximum splendor in the Rinascimento.
Florence, with to Rome, represents the history of our civilization. In fact, just here, in the XV century, are placed the bases of the art and culture: thanks to writers like Dante, Petrarca and Machiavelli, bloomed the culture and the Italian language and thanks to the works of art of artists like Botticelli, Michelangelo and Donatello, Florence has become one of the artistics center of the world. Of its past conserve still an exceptional artistic patrimony (although the serious damages endured after the terrible flooding of 1966). Let's start with “a virtual visit” between the works of art of Florence.
The center of Florence is Public square of the Dome, where we can admire the Bell tower of Giotto, the Baptistry and the Museum of the Work of the Dome. The Bell tower of Giotto, planned from Giotto, is divided in 5 floors where we can find sculptures and statues. To the last one, there is a beautifulst terrace from which it is possible to admire an immense and suggestive panorama of Florence.
The Baptistry is an old art work built in the times of the Roman and is dedicated to Saint Giovanni Batiste (patron of the city). It has an octagonal structure, it is covered and decorated of marble (pavement inner comprised), there are present many mosaics and much beautiful and characteristic are the adorned gold doors. The Museum of the Work of the Dome contains works of illustrious artists like Ghiberti, Brunelleschi, Donatello, Luca of the Robbia, Andrea Pisano, Giotto, Donatello (between the works more important we find the instruments used for the construction of the Dome, two roman sarcofaghi, the Mercy of Michelangelo). The Dome of Florence (or Saint cathedral Maria of the Flower) is raised in all its splendor just in the heart of the city, in Public square of the Dome, on the skillful of the Arno river.
The Dome is externally decorated with red, green and white marble. To its construction have contributed vary artists between which Arnolfo di Cambio and Filippo Brunelleschi (author of the beautifulst cupola, high 90 meters). Inner is characterized by the pavement in marble and on the walls they are present frescoes of rare beauty as 'the Universal judgment' of the Vasari (on the Cupola) and a fresco inspired to Dante and its Divine Commedia. To still remember beautifulst vetrate and the mechanical clock working.
Continuing to south of Dome Public square we arrive in Signoria Public square flanked by Old Palace and the Uffizi, one of the main Italian galleries of art. Public square of the Signoria is rich of statues and monuments, between which Fontana of Neptune of the Ammannati and the copy of the David of Michelangelo. Old palace, than still today accommodates the offices of the florence istitutions, is entire visitabile and it accommodates frescoes and beautiful decorations; the tower of the old palace is high 94 meters.
Between the Old Palace and the Arno river we find the Palace of the Uffizi with its Museum, one of beautifulst of Europe, than conserve the greatest Italian and foreign works. Between the works to admire we remember the “Birth of Venere” of Botticelli, the “Sacred Family” of Michelangelo and works of Federico da Montefeltro and of its spouse and works of Piero della Francesca. Around to the palace (few minutes by walk) we find the churches of Saint Maria Novel (in the photo), Saint Lorenzo church and Santa Trinità church.
To the orients extremity of the city center we find the Basilica of Santa Croce, than conserve rip and the monuments of illustrious florentine artists (between which Michelangelo, Galileo and Machiavelli) and splendid fresco of Giotto. Passed Old Bridge, we find the famous Vasariano Corridor (that joins the Uffizi to Palazzo Pitti); the Vasariano Corridor can be visited and that it contains hundred of works of several art of historical periods.
The Old Bridge is the only bridge remained intact after the strafings of the second world war and is one of the symbols of Florence with its varied shops of 'Orafi Fiorentini' with loto of handicraft products. Little distant rises Palazzo Pitti; inside the palace is possible to admire the beautifulst Garden of Boboli, absolutely not to losing. Worthy of famous are also the archaeological Museum (with much important ancient works), the Museum of Bargello (with important sculptures), the museum of the Academy of the Fine Arts. It deserves a visit, at last, the History Museum of Science (in public square de' Giudici) that collects works, plans, inventions and oldest instruments of the scientist Galileo Galilei.
