Istituto Italiano

Istituto Italiano Florence The Istituto Italiano is the ideal reference point for those who want to start or continue studying the Italian language and culture.
The Institute, which is open all year, is well known for its competent, enthusiastic and highly qualified teaching staff, for its modern, multimedia teaching materials, for the wide range of courses offered, for its efficient organization, for the friendly atmosphere and for the many extracurricular activities that are available on a daily basis and free of charge. It is precisely these cultural, social and recreational activities that bring the students into close contact with Italian life. The school, a place to study, becomes the place to live the Italian experience, and thus the ideal setting for achieving excellent linguistic results.

The Institute is located in a magnificent XVII century building, the elegant Palazzo Testa, in one of the most beautiful streets of the heart of the city, Via Martelli. The Institute offers the students a wonderful and absolutely unique environment, with spacious, well-lit and comfortable classrooms, a well stocked library, a video-stereo equipped auditorium with a giant movie screen and an efficient secretarial office, always willing to help. The windows of the Institute offer an amazing close-up view of the Cathedral and the majestic Palazzo Medici-Riccardi.

All the faculty members are graduates of the University of Florence. They are competent, experienced, enthusiastic, friendly, patient ad sensitive to the students' needs. They have all completed a special course in teaching Italian as a second language and are a permanent team of specialists

Classes range from a maximum of 10 to 12 students, with an average of 6 or 7. The small classes mean that each student receives individual attention and achieves excellent results.
The groups are formed on the basis of the students' actual knowledge of Italian, and therefore are perfectly homogeneous. The management always tries to keep the classes diversified by nationality; this creates more stimuli and encourages the students to use Italian as their "official" language.

Istituto Michelangelo

Istituto Michelangelo Florence Italian language school in Florence

Italian courses in Florence
A city of great historic cultural and artistic tradition, Firenze offers the best opportunity one may expect from a period abroad to learn the language in Italy. In order to start to learn or to improve Italian in Italy, Florence is the best choice: the purity of the language, the liveliness and authenticity of everyday life, the charm of its inhabitants, the great number of museums and monuments and its special position in Tuscany, in the centre of Italy, are some of the reasons that make Firenze the best choice to spend the time set aside for this programme: to learn Italian.

Traditionally, the school has always offered its students, together with regular courses, every opportunity to learn about Italian life and culture. Besides regular courses, the school makes available a series of extra-curricular activities, both cultural and recreational, which help students to enjoy and appreciate, in the best way possible, their stay in Florence, in Tuscany and in Italy.

Visits to museums, participation in concerts, excursions in Tuscany and to other art town in Italy, showings of films, towns of cultural and artistic interest conferences about Italian culture, dinners in restaurants, meetings with Italian students, visits to markets, and evening entertainment are organized by the school staff, who, besides teaching, give a special attention to student ‘get-togethers’.

Italian Courses offered by the Michelangelo Schools
The teaching of the Italian Language is the principal activity of the school organising, all year round intensive programmes for different types of learning needs. Besides this programme, and as its necessary complement, the Michelangelo school wants participants to learn about Italian culture, art and customs.

The courses offered by Michelangelo Italian language schools are:
- The Italian Language Courses in Florence, offered in six levels, all year round, permits the progressive learning of Italian. The courses are intensive, favouring everyday Italian.

- The Specialisation Course in our Italian Language School, which every year is available to teachers of Italian, to those in possession of the Michelangelo Diploma, and to those who, having complete mastery over the language, wish to take a ‘refresher course’.

- The Individual Intensive Courses in the Italian Language (one to one courses), offered in several ‘options’, are full immersion courses addressed to those who must, in a short time, have a good command of Italian. Their reasons to learn Italian may be professional or just personal interest.

- The Art History Courses - held in Italian (and in English for absolute beginners) - aim to outline, analyse and offer an historical overview of the Italian artistic heritage, from the days of Greece and Rome up to the High Renaissance and Baroque periods in Italy. Every course provides for regular visits to the main museums, to art galleries and to monuments in Florence.

- The Supplementary Courses in Italian Culture, held in the afternoons twice a week, offer a wide range of subjects to be examined under the guidance of teachers specialised in the various fields proposed.

- The Art Courses are open also to Italian students. The courses are held in the ancient and original studio at the ground floor of the school. They are totally practical in nature, inviting participants learn to develop and to improve their artistic aptitudes. The Art Courses are open also to absolute beginners.

- The Italian Cooking Course - held in the school’s fully-equipped kitchen - is a pleasant and interesting way to learn about and to prepare some of the most typical dishes in the gastronomic tradition of Italy. The cooking course is also an informal conversation course, giving the possibility to practise the Italian language.

Società Dante Alighieri

Società Dante Alighieri Florence THE SCHOOL

The Società Dante Alighieri is the oldest Italian association to deal with teaching the Italian language to foreigners, and has done this ever since its founding. The Committee of the Società Dante Alighieri of Florence is the Society’s only resident one in this city. In thus representing to all effects the Società Dante Alighieri, a non-profit organisation founded in 1889, it offers courses in the Italian language and culture that are authorised by the Government with Presidential Decree No. 1892 of 16 December 1960. Other institutions in Florence named for the Divine Poet are not representatives of the Società Dante Alighieri. Both the administrative department and the school are housed in a single location, in Via Gino Capponi No. 4.

THE PREMISES

The premises are prestigious ones, both for their antiquity (15th c.) and for the beauty and value of the frescoes in the cloister, which were magnificently restored after the 1966 flood. The cloister, known as the “Chiostro di S. Pierino” or “Chiostro della Compagnia della SS. Nunziata”, is the destination of numerous visiting art scholars.
The environment is very distinctive and unusual: both the great hall where cultural manifestations and concerts take place, and also the cloister with its discreet light and its coolness, welcome the students, involving them in an atmosphere of the past. Thanks to its location in the heart of Florence, when students cross the threshold of the door of the school at the end of lessons, they are immediately immersed in the rapid pulsation of modern Florentine life. There is the crowded Piazza SS. Annunziata with its magnificent basilica and Brunelleschi’s famous “Loggiato degli Innocenti”; the equestrian statue to Ferdinando I° by Giambologna; the two fountains by Pietro Tacca, which rise in the centre of the square like two jewels; the nearby Pergola Theatre; Piazza del Duomo with the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore; the baptistery and Giotto’s bell tower; Piazza della Signoria, with Palazzo Vecchio and the loggia of the Uffizi gallery that at all times is animated by tourists coming literally from the ends of the earth.

Spirito Italiano

Spirito Italiano Florence Among the many Italian language schools in Italy, here we are, Spirito Italiano, another small Italian language school in Florence. By saying small, we don't intend to be negative about ourselves, since we think that learning Italian in a small environment is a good thing. Seeing that many big Italian language schools in Florence sometimes treat students who have come to study abroad in Italy more like a source of income than individuals, we thought we would offer more personalized Italian language courses to those students who come to learn Italian language and culture in Florence with high expectations and love for the Italian language and culture. Certainly, we are running a business, yet we intend to do it with our heart, without losing contact with students and their needs. Studying Italian in Italy, in Tuscany and particularly learning Italian in Florence is the most and correct way to learn to speak Italian since Tuscany is the origin of today's Italian language.
Traveling in Italy is a real cultural experience. As in any educational experience, not only do you have the opportunity to study Italian, but also to learn Italian culture through the many art courses, gastronomy courses and other Italian cultural courses that we offer.
Overseas studies could be a good investment and good fun if you choose the proper Italian language courses. But you don't need to spend a lot of money and time at school to get the most of your Italian language lessons.
For many beginners, the study abroad experience can be difficult. Even though the Italian grammar is quite complex, learning Italian in Florence should be fun!
For this reason, our main objective is to adapt our Italian language program to the desires and abilities of students, individually and in groups.
