The British Institute of Florence was founded in 1917 with the aim of developing cultural understanding between the UK and Italy through the teaching of their respective languages and cultures. THE SCHOOL The Società Dante Alighieri is the oldest Italian association to deal with teaching the Italian language to foreigners, and has done this ever since its founding. The Committee of the Società Dante Alighieri of Florence is the Society’s only resident one in this city. In thus representing to all effects the Società Dante Alighieri, a non-profit organisation founded in 1889, it offers courses in the Italian language and culture that are authorised by the Government with Presidential Decree No. 1892 of 16 December 1960. Other institutions in Florence named for the Divine Poet are not representatives of the Società Dante Alighieri. Both the administrative department and the school are housed in a single location, in Via Gino Capponi No. 4. THE PREMISES The premises are prestigious ones, both for their antiquity (15th c.) and for the beauty and value of the frescoes in the cloister, which were magnificently restored after the 1966 flood. The cloister, known as the “Chiostro di S. Pierino” or “Chiostro della Compagnia della SS. Nunziata”, is the destination of numerous visiting art scholars. The environment is very distinctive and unusual: both the great hall where cultural manifestations and concerts take place, and also the cloister with its discreet light and its coolness, welcome the students, involving them in an atmosphere of the past. Accademia Europea di Firenze is an Italian language, arts, music and culture school right in the centre of historic Florence, just between the Duomo and the Piazza della Repubblica. We have experienced teachers and a method that enables the students to learn in the classroom and practice the Italian language at the cultural and recreational activities with a friendly and familiar climate. We also organize for the music and arts students, concerts, shows and exhibits, both within the school and also in renowned theaters, churches and other locations in the centre of the city.

ITALIAN LANGUAGE SCHOOL (Language is Culture) Language is not only a way of communicating, but it can also reveal a lot about the culture of a people, its history and its mentality. This is why it is so important to integrate as far possible a language and its structure with the everyday social and cultural life of a country. A small school, with a familiar air, is the best place in which to achieve this, and is exact what we offer you at IL GLOBO: an environment which avoids the risk of mingling anonymously among dozens of students and which instead offers a personal rapport with teachers and members of staff. A school tailor-made for the individual’s requirements ensuring a gratifying time both in class and out. Our Italian language courses are in fact designed to maximise the students’ participation and are thus limited to 7 students per class. Besides these, our choice of supplementary courses, seminars and numerous activities organized by the school will allow you an enjoyable and relaxing access into the florentine atmosphere. In fact IL GLOBO, as a true multicultural centre offering in addition music and art courses for both Italian and foreigners, actively collaborates with the city’s public administration in organizing artistic events and shows.
