The Museum of Natural History of the University of Florence, founded in 1775 by the Grand Duke Pietro Leopoldo but with the nucleus of the Botanical Garden dating back to 1545, is currently, with its 8 million specimens, the most important Italian naturalistic museum and one of the major internationally.
Consisting of six sections located in one of the most beautiful historical centers in the world, the Museum houses finds of extraordinary scientific and naturalistic value: from sixteenth-century herbariums to precious 18th century waxes, from fossil elephant skeletons to collections of colorful butterflies, with large crystals of tourmaline to the Aztec finds, from the imposing wooden sculptures to the biggest inflorescence in the world. A context that marvelously combines nature, history, science and art.
